Artist Residency

About Artist Residency

We offer artists and creatives the opportunity to explore a residency with us centered on indigenous knowledge, indigenous seeds, indigenous foods, and ancestral ways of knowing and being in the world. Our residency offers artists and creatives the opportunity to engage in cultural exchange in the Upper East or North East Regions of Ghana in partnership with the communities that we work with. Our residency promotes cross-cultural dialogue, artistic exchange, and exploration of shared interests and mutual benefit between the artist and the community. We are unable to offer stipends and financial support for the duration of the artist’s stay for the residency; however, our in-kind support includes fostering collaborations and partnerships, office space, and support to access local materials and resources.

❋ Literary Residency

Using creative writing to explore indigenous food heritage, indigenous seeds, and traditional food ways by collaborating with youth, farmers, and their communities.

❋ Visual Artists Residency

This is open for painters, sculptors, illustrators, and photographers to produce an installation, in partnership with a farming community or an individual farmer on the focus areas of The Beela Project.

❋ Culinary Residency

This is an opportunity for a chef to reconnect with indigenous food systems, food sovereignty, and seed sovereignty through exploring, experimentation, and reconnecting with indigenous ingredients.

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." (African proverb)
